Railway station and the steam locomotive

The railway building was erected in 1894 at the, at the time, the southern entrance to the city. The history of the railway in Požega is long, considering it took the whole second half of the 19th century to build it. It was first planned that Požega should lay on the mainline from Zagreb do Belgrade but in 1896 the railway line was built as a local line. However, it was enough for the city to experience significant economical growth. In remembrance of those important times a 1926 steam locomotive, one of the most common models on Croatian railways stands in front of the railway station.
