In front of St. Theresa Cathedral there is a monument of friar Luka Ibrišimović, Požega’s saviour and liberator from the Turks. The monument of the Požega “Hawk” („Sokol”) was made by Đuro Kiš, and in 1893 it was placed directly in front of the church portal. To its current position it was placed after World War II and until this day it reminds the citizens of Požega of their hero, who led his people in the crucial battle against the Turks in 1688. On St. Gregory Day, 12th March, every year, the citizens of Požega remember this famous friar and his great battle, celebrating that day as their town’s special day.
