Even though Nikola Tesla, the famous American inventor of Serbian heritage born in the Croatian region of Lika, had nothing in common with Požega, the “father” of alternating current got its statue here in 2012. It was erected in remembrance of the first 100 years of electricity in Požega. The statue is located in the park next to the Orljava River. Some kilometres downstream, in the village of Kuzmica, one can still find the old hydroelectric power plant named “Munjara” (the Lightning house).
