Diocesan Museum

The Diocesan Museum of the Požega Diocese was founded by bishop Antun Škvorčević in 1999. It consists of a sacred collection, a collection of modern and contemporary art, ethnographic collection, graphic collection and a plaque and medal collection. The museum has a permanent display of the sacred collection and the collection of modern and contemporary art, edited in 2016, and exhibited partly in the Bishop’s Residence as an integral part of the museum collection. More than 200 items of sacred heritage dating from 15th to 20th century and works of contemporary and modern art are currently displayed. Besides the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in the Diocesan Museum, there is also the personal Bishop Antun Škvorčević’s Collection of Art, consisting mostly of gifts received by the bishop from individual artists and other people on the occasion of the foundation of the Požega Diocese and his episcopal ordination in 1997 and later – up until today.

The complete information about the Museum can be found in the book entitled “Diocesan Museum in Požega and the Treasury of the Cathedral of Požega”.
