{"id":5182,"date":"2021-09-17T12:53:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-17T10:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozega-tz.hr\/en\/?p=5182"},"modified":"2024-11-13T12:53:56","modified_gmt":"2024-11-13T11:53:56","slug":"pozega-diocese-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pozega-tz.hr\/en\/pozega-diocese-building\/","title":{"rendered":"Po\u017eega Diocese building"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On the central Holy Trinity Square, our eyes set on the former Jesuit \u201cCollege\u201d which is now the seat of Po\u017eega Diocese, the Bishops\u2019s residence and residence of his colleagues, used also as the Diocese administration offices. It was built by the Jesuits from 1709 to 1711 on the grounds next to the medieval St. Lawrence Church. It was the residence of the Jesuits who established the first educational facility in 1699, Gimnazija (High School), which housed the \u201cAcademia Posegana\u201d in the mid 18<sup>th<\/sup> century.\u00a0 Following the abolishment of the Jesuit order in 1773 it was repossessed by the state and in 1835 it was bought by the archbishop of Zagreb, Aleksandar Alagovi\u0107, who repurposed it as an orphanage, later a boarding school for underprivileged students. It assumed its current appearance in 1904 when the third floor and the new Neo-Baroque facade were added. The building was previously extended and connected to St. Lawrence Church. In 1946 the communist rule took over the building from the Zagreb archdiocese and made it into a dormitory for high school students. Later on the building was used for various purposes. It was finally returned to the archdiocese in 1994 and with the foundation of the Po\u017eega Diocese in 1997, the building became its seat.
