The new Gymnasium building was opened in 2009 not far from the Po\u017eega College (Veleu\u010dili\u0161te u Po\u017eegi). It is one of the most modern high school buildings in Croatia with a capacity of 700 students. The Gymnasium in Po\u017eega is proud of its several hundred years of existence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was first founded by the Jesuits in 1699 and from 1761 to 1776 it was known under the name of \u201cAcademia Posegana\u201d. At the time it consisted of two faculties \u2013 philosophy and theology. After the Jesuits were discontinued as a monastic order, the gymnasium functioned under the Pauline and Franciscan orders. Since 1925 the Gymnasium functioned as a comprehensive grammar school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 1976 the Po\u017eega Gymnasium was merged with other high schools in the city as part of a national school reform program and in 1992 it was once again reformed as a separate high school. Since it moved into the new building, the old building next to the Cathedral became known as the Catholic elementary school and gymnasium (high school).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
