During the Turkish reign the church was converted into a mosque and its appearance has been redesigned throughout centuries with multiple extensions, in particular after the fire in 19<sup>th<\/sup> century. Its original shape can be seen in the sanctuary with its arched gothic ceiling. In 1995 archaeological excavations unveiled a richly decorated romanesque portal in the northern part of the church, which is assumed to have been an older church dating from the 13<sup>th<\/sup> century.
